Whether you’re an angel-funded social enterprise company pitching for your first round of venture capital (VC) funding, or a fast growing technology SME pitching to secure a critical commercial contract, you typically have one chance to get it right. Key to your success is likely to be an investor, elevator or commerical pitch, ranging somewhere between 1-60 minutes in length.
The commercial opportunity built around the idea, technology or concept is critical. But a good idea by itself isn’t enough. In the words of the highly regarded US investor, Guy Kawasaki - ‘if you experience great difficulty in raising money, it's not because VCs are idiots and cannot comprehend your curve-jumping, paradigm shifting, revolutionary product. It's because you either have a piece of crap or you are not effectively communicating what you have. Both are your fault’.
An intelligent pitch is crucial. De-risk the pitch.
